Cast-in place concrete underpinnings

This system is recommended where stable earth support is available at relatively shallow depths. The purpose is to transfer foundation loads to deeper, stronger, and more stable earth so as to prevent further settlement. And, to the extent practical, to lift the foundation back to its original elevation.

Concrete underpinnings piers are installed at corners and other critical locations, at about eight feet on center between each location. Heavy-duty jacks are then placed in pockets to lift the bottom of the footing and pier shoulders. The Jacks are then removed and the excavations backfilled. The Jack pockets are left should any additional jacking ever be required.

The photos above show the jack pockets with the jacks installed prior to lifting the foundation back to it's original elevation.
